Lip Sync's Back - ALL RIGHT!

After a three-year hiatus, we are thrilled to announce the return of JRR's legendary Lip Sync event - a two-night musical extravaganza featuring JRR's student performers - and some secret, special guests! This year, Lip Sync will take place the evenings of Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 1 at JRR. If your child to perform, please sign up no later than Feb 3 

New to Lip Sync and wondering what all the fuss is about?  Read on!

What is Lip Sync?

Lip Sync is an annual event created to enhance community spirit, raise funds for JRR programs and activities and bring students and families together for a fun, musical experience!

What are the guidelines for participating?

All kids from SK-6 are welcome to participate. Each group must consist of 2 or more students. 

Important: students cannot perform in more than one group and solo acts will not be permitted.

What do the kids actually do during their performance?

Lip sync of course!  Each group (or pair) of performers will choose a song and perform it on stage.  Costumes and a little choreography are welcomed and encouraged! 

What song should we perform to?

Song choices are up to each group with some guidelines:

  • Each performance will have 60-90 seconds of play maximum, no exceptions. Less is more 😊 
  • Please keep songs clean – no “parental advisory” songs, swearing, overt sexual content, discrimination, oppression or appropriation.
  • iTunes versions of songs only 
  • Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate song, group or performance night changes after February 8.

This sounds AMAZING!  How does my child sign up?

Sign-up sheets will be posted throughout the building HOWEVER your child is not registered until you add them to the following online Google Docs form here.

Please provide your child's name, members of their group, grade(s), song, preferred performance night and group name.

What if the performance date doesn't work for me?

Lip Sync requires an event permit from TDSB - which we have obtained for February 28 and March 1.  When signing up, please note your preferred performance date (if you have one) and we will do our best to accommodate your selection.  We appreciate your understanding! 

Will there be a rehearsal?

Technical rehearsals will take place approximately one week before performance days.  Groups must attend a tech rehearsal along with 1 parent per group. We strongly recommend you organize your own rehearsal schedule with your group so that everyone is ready to rock on show day!  More details on the technical rehearsal will be sent out in February.

What is my role as a parent/caregiver?

Be a cheerleader!  Help us spread the word about the event, encourage your child to practice and don't forget to buy tickets to the show!    

How do I volunteer/get more involved?

IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO MAKE LIP SYNC A SUCCESS!  We need help prior to, during and after the performances. All volunteers will see their children perform AND receive PRIORITY SEATING. Bonus points if you have graphic design skills (i.e. can make a great logo) or experience with AV equipment 😊

Do I need to buy tickets to attend?  Is there a limit on the number of tickets I can purchase?

Everyone (including volunteers) will need to purchase a ticket to attend the show(s), however Students may watch for free on the night they are performing. Maximum of 6 tickets per student can be purchased in advance.   Details regarding ticket purchase will be shared in a subsequent email.
